Evans Lagat
Evans has over 12 years’ experience in practice as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. He has served in senior positions in the corporate world as Company Secretary/ head of Legal where he gained extensive experience on corporate and commercial law. As In-House Counsel, Evans was in charge of complex M&A transactions and guided the companies on compliance through the legal environment in different sectors of the economy including information technology, mining, manufacturing, agribusiness, logistics, real estate, banking and insurance as well as hospitality.
His experience therefore covers commercial & corporate practice, governance and policy advisory, intellectual property, corporate restructuring, real estate development, project finance as well as international trade & investment law including handling various cross border transactions. Evans has served as a Director in a number of Boards where he offered strategic leadership to the respective companies.
As a Committee member of the Institute of Certified Secretaries (ICS), Evans was part of the team that developed the first Governance Standards in Kenya for purposes of corporate governance compliance. As a legal practitioner, he has provided consulting and transaction advisory services in various areas of law including undertaking due diligence for purposes of acquisition and divestment; governance audits for State Corporations and private companies; legislative drafting and policy formulation. Evans holds a bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree and a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree on International Trade & Investment Laws both from the University of Nairobi. He is also a Certified Public secretary (CPS-K), Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb). Outside the office, Evans is an avid golfer as a member of the Royal Nairobi Golf Club.
